Generate Window
Component Descriptions
Use Table 4-1 and refer to Figure 4-1 to follow the component descriptions for the GENERATE window.

| Deliverable Type |
Selection of the data requirements. Defined in the set up process. |
| Data Element Map (DEM) |
The name and path of the DEM file that holds the mapping information for the selected deliverable type. |
| Data Source Name (DSN) |
The DSN identified in the SETUP window, which the data requirement is mapped to and pulled from. |
| Output File Name |
The path and file name for the resoluting XML output file. |
| The [...] button |
Allows the user to browse their system to select the path and filename for the XML output file. |
| Message field |
Displays informational messages to the user about the data to be generated. |
| Build button |
Allows the user to generates the XML delieverable file from data in the user's source database according to the mapping relationships defined in the data mapping utility. The button will change to XML DTD Validate and Update Log as the user proceeds through the generate process. |
| Main button |
Returns the SEDD MAIN MENU window. |
| Help button |
Provides the user with function-specific guidance. |
| XML DTD Validate button |
Allows the user to validate the XML deliverable file against the DEM/DTD. |
| Update Log button |
Allows the user to update the log in the SEDD system and thereby prepare the XML file to be sent. |
Generate Procedures
In the Data Requirement section, the user must select the appropriate deliverable type for the data file to be generated and specify the location for the output file to be saved.
Selecting a Deliverable Type
Step 1
Click on the drop-down arrow next to {Deliverable Type: } to display all the Document Type Definitions (DTDs) that were downloaded from the SEDD system server.
Step 2
Click on the deliverable type in the drop-down menu to select it. A selected deliverable type will be highlighted. As a deliverable type is selected by the user, the SEDD system will automatically display the corresponding {Data Element Map} and {Data Source Name} information.
Data Element Map
The Data Element Map (DEM) file is displayed for verification purposes. The DEM file contains the data requirements mapping specifications for the source database. The DEM can only be edited in the SETUP window.
Data Source Name
The Data Source Name is displayed for verification purposes and defined by your local database. The Data Source Name can only be specified from the SETUP window.
Designating an Output File Name
To designate the Output File Name, follow the steps below:
Step 1
Determine the location where the Output File will be stored.
Step 2
Enter the file path and file name directly in the field or click on the [...] button located next to {Output File Name: } to browse for a particular path.
Step 3
Select the new path and if necessary, rename the output file.
Step 4
Click on the OK button to save the designation.
Messages
While generating a data file, the Message window conveys pertinent information to the user. These messages may be instructional or informative such as the example in figure 4-2.

Building an XML File
TIP - Prior to generating an XML file, the user should complete all the data mapping for the function to work properly. |
Step 1
The user should verify that the information displayed in the Data Requirement section is correct for the XML data file to be built.
Step 2
Click on the Build button. The Connect To the Database window will appear.
Step 3
Enter the DSN password.
Step 4
Click on the OK button to start the XML file generation process.
Step 5
During generation, a pop-up window may appear that prompts the user to select data values. Highlight the appropriate data value, then click on the OK button. When the process is completed, an XML DTD Validate button will appear in place of the Build button.
Validation of an XML File
WARNING - DTD Validation is required before the file can be sent to the data requestor through the SEDD system. |
Step 1
Click on the XML DTD Validate button. The XML output file will be validated against the DEM. Validation checks whether the required data elements are present. It does not perform any accuracy checks on the data contents.
Step 2
If a "Validation Failed" message is displayed, go back to the SETUP window and check the DTD for any inconsistencies with the database. After successful validation, the Update Log button will appear in place of the XML DTD Validate button.
TIP - If the user does not validate at this time, the XML file must be rebuilt and validated prior to its delivery using the SEDD system. |
Update Log
To complete the last part of the Generate process, follow the steps below:
Step1
Click on the Update Log button to save the file. Unsaved/Unlogged files will not be available for file viewing or Sent Date tracking through the SEDD system.
Step2
Click on the Main Button at the bottom of the GENERATE window to return to the Main SEDD Menu.
